Strofa 1
Strofa 2
I clienti ordinano latti con cuori
Disegno rosette che loro scorrono via
scrivo distici sui tovaglioli
certe parole infondono forti e amare
altre evaporano come vapore
Strofa 4
Strofa 6
Premo e verso queste metafore ogni giorno
guardo sbiadire le poesie sui tovaglioli.
Avena, non odi,
lasciamoli fare.
Tengo una riga in tasca.
Non nel lavandino.

Testo originale

Verse 1
Royal Mile bustles with Fringe crowds
espresso steam fogs the castle view
I tamp coffee under its shadow
apron pocket full of scribbled scraps
smell of burnt beans and tourist perfume
same as the day I thought verse could pay rent
Verse 2
Customers order lattes with hearts
I swirl rosettes they scroll past
write couplets on napkins
manager bins them at close
the city sells its history cheap
my lines go for nowt
Verse 3
Ghosts of poets haunt the closes
I whisper rhymes to the milk jug
they ask for oat, not odes
think a stanza’s a type of coffee
some words brew strong and bitter
others evaporate like steam
Verse 4
Busker’s fiddle fills the lane
I step out for a fag
cranes line up new hotels
building more than I can say
the castle’s shadow grows longer
swallowing the last of the light
Verse 5
Evening gilds the Old Town stone
I lock up, count the coppers
scribble one more line
in the phone’s blue glare
poems dissolve like sugar
leave no trace in the cup
Verse 6
I tamp and pour these metaphors daily
watch the napkin poems fade.
Oat, not odes—
let them.
I keep one line in my pocket.
Not the sink.

Svenska

Vers 1
Vers 4
Gatumusikantens fiol fyller gränden
Jag går ut för en cigg
byggkranar radar upp nya hotell
bygger mer än jag kan säga
slottets skugga växer längre
sväljer det sista av ljuset
Vers 5
Kvällen förgyller Gamla stans sten
Jag låser, räknar kopparmynten
klottrar ännu en rad
i telefonens blå sken
dikter löser sig som socker
lämnar inget spår i koppen
Vers 6
Jag pressar och häller dessa metaforer dagligen
ser servettdikterna blekna.
Havre, inte oden-
låt dem.
Jag har en rad i fickan.
Inte i vasken.
